Your professional cleaning team works hard to keep your facilities clean and hygienic. However, while they’re willing to go above and beyond to provide the best cleaning service possible, that doesn’t mean you can’t do your part, too. Simple things can be done to ensure your janitors, day porters, and other cleaning staff can do their jobs more efficiently. These considerate acts do little to inconvenience you, and will make it easy for your professional cleaners to do their jobs.
Clear Off Desks
Your desk is where you spend most of your workday, so naturally you have an assortment of things decorating it to make it feel more like home. Framed photos, stress toys, plants, and notebooks are commonly found scattered around your desk. But when your cleaning team comes in to wipe down and disinfect your desk, these items can get in the way.
Before you think you’re going to have to go the Marie Kondo route, don’t worry; you can still keep your mementos and desk decor. But if you have a team that does regular wipe-downs of surfaces, you may want to put them away on the days they’re scheduled to come in. This keeps them from getting misplaced from the busy cleaning crew having to move them when they wipe things down.
If you have a desk that adjusts into a standing desk, leave it up before you leave for the weekend. Dust accumulates under them, so it’s much easier for the cleaning staff to clear it away if they have easy access underneath. You raising it yourself avoids accidentally toppling over monitors or things getting displaced, too.
Keep Bathrooms Clean
There’s no denying that dirty bathrooms are gross. That’s why facilities hire janitors and day porters to come and clean them. But just because there’s someone getting paid to clean doesn’t mean you should leave a mess.
Before you head back to your desk, take a few seconds to wipe up any water that might have splashed out of the sink and drop any used paper towels in the trash. This not only makes the cleaners’ job easier, but it leaves a more pleasant bathroom experience for the next person who needs to go.
Make Wastebaskets Easily Accessible
If you keep a small wastebasket at your desk for snack wrappers, tissues, or other debris, you’ll want it to be emptied by the cleaning team. Many people prefer to keep their wastebasket out of sight during the day to keep their area professional. It also keeps the chances of it getting knocked over and spilling low.
However, it’s easier for the cleaning team to take out the trash quickly and efficiently if the wastebasket is out in the open. Before you leave your office at the end of the day, move it from its hiding place. It’ll only take a few seconds to pull it out and place it in the middle of the room. Then, when you return next day, you can easily move the wastebasket back to its original spot.
These little acts of cleaning might not seem like much, but when an entire building does them, it adds up to save your professional cleaning team valuable time. This time can then be used for disinfecting during flu season, scrubbing difficult spots, and allowing your cleaning staff to put in that extra effort. After all, when you go the extra mile for others, they’ll go the extra mile for you.
